Business Treading Lightly is funded by The NSW Environmental Trust.

The $2million funding comes through the Urban Sustainability Major Projects Grants.

Business Treading Lightly is managed by the Southern Councils Group (SCG), a partnership between 7 member councils of the Illawarra and South Coast regions of NSW, and the Southern Rivers CMA

Program decision making is undertaken in two forums: a Management Committee with membership from NSW Department of Environment Climate Change and Water (DECCW) and SCG; and an Advisory Committee with membership from DECCW, each member Council and SCG.

DECCW also provides support by resource sharing including the 'Sustainability Advantage' program and use of DECCW contractors for workshops and training modules.
