Business Treading Lightly has partnered with its 100th business to improve sustainable practices in the Illawarra, South Coast and Southern Highlands. 

BTL’s partners include: Bluehaven Nursing Home, Illawarra Retirement Trust, Uniting Care and Warrigal Care. Merimbula RSL Club, Village Centre & Bridge Plaza Batemans Bay, Oak Flats Bowling & Recreation Club, City Diggers, Novotel, Steelers Club, Kells the Lawyers.. and many more..

Businesses are already reporting savings with BTL partner Port Kembla Golf Club cutting water consumption by 42.7% in 3 Years, cutting energy consumption by 8.3% in 3 years while revenue and occupancy rose 14%.

City Diggers’ waterless urinal blocks are saving approx. $11,000 per annum In 2008 Novotel Northbeach reduced water consumption by 47%, gas consumption by 10%, reduced waste to land fill by 31% and reduced electricity consumption by 17%, saving $$$

The Links Shell Cove on Course Recycling system is estimated to save $3,500 per annum while Albion Park RSL Memorial Club's Food Organic Waste Collection is estimated to save 8 tonnes of waste to landfill per annum.

Shoalhaven Heads Bowling and Recreation Club reduced it's energy consumption by 12% from the same period in the previous year. And this did not cost them a cent. They achieved this reduction simply through improved management of their existing assets and infrastructure - showing that you don’t necessarily have to spend money to save money.

Currarong Beachside Tourist Park, has managed to cut its cleaning chemical use by at least half by the simple use of measuring dispensers.

By replacing leaking air compressor hoses aluminium window manufacturer Martifer saved $1,245.06 on the electricity bill compared to the same period last year. This saves 45 tons of Co2 per year and offers a return on investment (ROI) in 3.1 years based on the electricity savings alone.

According to BTL Program Manager Simon Wallace- Pannell, BTL offers a deep and sustained program which does not rely, like many environmental programs, on self assessment. “BTL partners are achieving significant results in a real and very tough economic and business environment.” The importance of the 100th BTL partner also extends beyond the program itself. “Our 100 businesses collectively employ around 6,000 staff who have been educated both a work and at home about the benefits of sustainability", said Wallace-Pannell.
